The Day of Solidarity was observed on Monday, 29 November 2004. Special events were organized at United Nations headquarters in New York, as well as at United Nations offices at Geneva and Vienna.

:: United Nations International Conference of Civil Society in Support of the Palestinian People
    13 - 14 September 2004, United Nations Headquarters, New York

The Conference drew on the positive results of the 2002 and 2003 Conferences of Civil Society and maintained its theme – "Ending the occupation - A key prerequisite for achieving peace in the Middle East". The aim of the Conference was to provide civil society organizations from all regions of the world with an opportunity to discuss the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and coordinate their activities in support of the Palestinian people.  Invited speakers made presentations on various aspects of the role of civil society on the question of Palestine.  During discussion periods  NGO representatives and other participants had an opportunity to discuss and develop specific action-oriented proposals.  A plan of action was adopted by participants at the close of the Conference.

:: United Nations African Meeting in Support of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People
    29 - 30 June 2004, Cape Town, South Africa

This Meeting was held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. It focused on promoting support for international efforts at stopping the dangerous deterioration of the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, salvaging the political process, and realizing the vision of peace between Israelis and Palestinians. The theme of the Meeting was “Achieving the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people — The key to peace in the Middle East”.  Experts assessed the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, reviewed various initiatives aimed at resuming the peace dialogue and discussed international efforts at salvaging peace in the Middle East, as well as African support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. 


:: United Nations Forum of Civil Society in Support of Middle East Peace
    1 July 2004, Cape Town, South Africa

The Forum was held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People in order to provide civil society organizations with an opportunity to exchange views on the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, meet with the experts invited to the African Meeting, and develop action-oriented proposals in support of the Palestinian people. Participants discussed participation of African NGOs in international campaigns to end the occupation of Palestinian land and mobilizing international protection of the Palestinian population. The participants adopted a declaration at the close of the forum.

:: United Nations International Meeting on the Impact  of the Construction of the Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including in and around East Jerusalem
   
15-16 April 2004, Geneva


The Meeting was held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People to facilitate further discussion by all actors of the international community of the far-reaching humanitarian, legal and political implications of the construction of the separation barrier in the West Bank. It focused on the impact of the construction of the wall on the situation on the ground, as well as on international efforts to stop the construction. Experts assessed the scope of the project and its effects on the Palestinian population, and discussed the Palestinian and Israeli reaction to it, as well as the response of the international community. The Meeting was held at the United Nations Office at Geneva.
