Committee on the Exercise of the
Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People
| The General
Assembly, which is the highest organ of the United Nations, established the Committee
to promote the realization of internationally recognized Palestinian rights
(see sidebar). Its has 23 Members and 25
observers. The Committee monitors the situation related to
the question of Palestine and reports and makes suggestions to the General Assembly or the Security Council. In recent
years,
the Committee has also focused on supporting the Israeli-Palestinian peace

The Committee's programme includes the convening of international meetings and conferences, with the participation of political personalities, representatives of Governments and intergovernmental organizations, United Nations officials, academics, and the media, to which NGOs are invited. They focus on support for the Palestinian Rights and on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Upcoming and recent meetings...
Each year, on 29 November, anniversary of the 1947 General Assembly resolution partitioning Palestine, the Committee holds special events in observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People at United Nations headquarters in New York and sponsors similar activities at the United Nations offices in Geneva and Vienna, and other venues, to which NGOs are invited.
