Meeting on the Question of Palestine This Meeting was held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. It reviewed the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, discussed international efforts at revitalizing the political process between the parties, and addressed the question of the support by Latin American and Caribbean countries for a peaceful settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The theme of the Meeting was “Achieving the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people — The key to peace in the Middle East”. It was followed by the United Nations Public Forum in Support of Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Israeli-Palestinian Peace The Public Forum was held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People in order to provide civil society with an opportunity to exchange views on the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and meet with the experts invited to the Latin American and Caribbean Meeting. Participants discussed the role of the media, the impact of think tanks and, in general, the role of civil society in raising public awareness about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. |

Nations International Conference of Civil Society in Support of Middle East
Peace
The Conference drew on the positive results of the previous United Nations International Conferences of Civil Society and focused on the current situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and support by civil society for the current peace efforts. The Conference provided civil society organizations from all regions of the world with an opportunity to discuss the situation on the ground, develop action-oriented proposals in support of Middle East peace and coordinate their activities. Invited speakers made presentations on various aspects of the role of civil society in promoting a peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine. NGO representatives and other participants had an opportunity to discuss issues of particular interest to civil society organizations. A plan of action was adopted by participants at the close of the Conference. |

United Nations International Meeting on the Question of Palestine The theme of the Meeting, held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, was “Implementing the ICJ Advisory Opinion on the Legal Consequences of the Construction of the Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory – The role of Governments, intergovernmental organizations and civil society”. The Meeting focused on the significance of the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice, the responsibility of Governments and intergovernmental organizations, as well as the role of parliaments and civil society in advocating adherence to international law. Experts provided a legal analysis of the ICJ Advisory Opinion and discuss the response by the parties and the international community. The presentations by experts were followed by panel discussions. The Meeting was held at the United Nations Office at Geneva. |
