830 SERIES ADDED ENTRY -
UNIFORM TITLE

Authority-controlled field.

The authorized form of the Series Title, as established in an UNBIS authority record, is entered in field 830 $a whenever a series statement is recorded in field 490. A series statement should be recorded in field 490 even if the series title appearing on the publication is identical to the authority-controlled Series Title. If an UNBIS authority record for a Series Title does not exist, a new authority is created.
[Prior to March 2009, the series statement was recorded in field 490 only when it differed from the authority-controlled Series Title. If it was identical to the authority-controlled Series Title, it was recorded in field 440 instead of in fields 490 and 830].

If both a main series title and a subseries title are named on an item, enter the main title of the series in 830 $a followed by a period and the title of the subseries. If a subseries designator is present, follow the subseries designator by a comma and the title of the subseries.

If you are not sure whether a second series title on an item is a subseries or a separate series, treat is as a separate series and give it in separate 490 and 830 fields.

The volume number, if any, is entered in subfield $v. Punctuation preceding subfield $v will be generated automatically in bibliographic displays.
