630 SUBJECT ADDED ENTRY - UNIFORM TITLE - Indicators
 
 

First indicator
Nonfiling characters.
A value that indicates the number of character positions associated with an initial definite or indefinite article at the beginning of a main entry that are to be disregarded in sorting and filing processes.
    0    Number of nonfiling characters present.

Note: In UNBIS, initial articles are always dropped from uniform titles, so first indicator is always 0.

Second indicator
Subject heading system/thesarus.
(Values 0-3 and 5-6 are authoritative-agency data elements not used in UNBIS).

UNBIS uses Value=7 only.

    7   Source specified in subfield $2.
    The subject added entry conforms to the subject Heading/thesaurus building conventions identified by the USMARC code contained in subfield $2.
