First indicator Undefined. Blank. Second indicator Nonfiling characters. A value that indicates the number of character positions associated with an initial definite or indefinite article at the beginning of a main entry that are to be disregarded in sorting and filing processes. 0 No nonfiling characters. 1-9 Number of nonfiling characters present.
