Navigating the Web with Netscape

In order to be able to navigate the Web and look at webpages you need to use a browser. You are using a browser right now to look at this page. Just as Microsoft Word is a software for word processing and Powerpoint a software for preparing presentations, a browser is a software for navigating and accessing information on the Web.

The two main browsers are developed by Netscape (Netscape Navigator) and Microsoft (Internet Explorer). (For more information on these products please see Netscape Home Page (www.netscape.com) and Microsoft Home Page (www.microsoft.com). Unlike FTP or Gopher, these softwares provide multiple browsing capabilities: you can view or download files, including pictures, navigate through gophers, or establish a remote login with another computer via Telnet. The browser's toolbar provides a range of detailed functions and commands for navigating the web and managing the information you find.
