United Nations Initiatives on Global Geospatial Information



UN initiative on Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM)

Sets the agenda for the development of global geospatial information and promotes its use to address key global challenges. Provides a forum to liaise and coordinate among Member States, and between Member States and international organizations.



United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN)

Provides technical recommendations on standardizing geographical names at the national and international levels.



Regional cartographic conferences (UNRCC)

United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Asia and the Pacific, convened every three years .

United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for the Americas, convened every four years.

Organizes or supports ad hoc training courses, seminars, and expert group meetings, mostly in cooperation with host governments and international scientific and professional organizations
