World Information Society Day
17 May
The General Assembly proclaimed 17 May as World Information Society Day by resolution 60/252 of 27 March 2006. The Day will
help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.
The Assembly welcomed the strong development orientation of the outcomes of both the Geneva and Tunis phases of the World Summit on the Information Society. It also welcomed the progress achieved towards a multistakeholder
approach in building a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented
information society.
