English Programme Summary
About 400 United Nations staff and diplomats take English classes each term. The
majority are in levels 5, 6, 7 and 8 (intermediate to advanced) of our programme as
well as in special courses, such as Report Writing, Presentation Skills, Media and
Discourse Strategies. Most classes take place at lunch time between 12pm and 3pm but
we also offer some special courses in the evening from 5:45pm to 7:45pm. The English
programme also has a book/film club monthly meeting and runs trips to cultural sites
in New York City every term.
English classes are taught by our four full-time teachers – recruited through competitive
examination - as well as a number of part-time teachers who all have graduate degrees in
applied linguistics and several years of teaching experience in various multilingual contexts.
