About Us

Dr. Yong Ho

Yong Ho was born and grew up in Nanjing, China. He taught English at a university in China before he came to study at Columbia University to pursue a doctoral degree. He received his Ph.D. in anthropology/ linguistics in 1992. Before coming to the UN, he served as the Director of Curriculum and Language at China Institute, and taught at New School University. His publications include Aspects of Discourse Structure in Mandarin Chinese (1994), Beginner's Chinese (1997, 1999, 2001), China: An Illustrated History (2000), A Children's Dictionary of Chinese (2000), A Chinese-English Dictionary of 500 Most Frequently Used Words in Chinese (2001), and Intermediate Chinese. Ho Laoshi coordinates the Chinese Language Programme.


Mr. Ben Wang

Ben Wang earned an M.A. from Seton Hall University. He has taught Chinese at Columbia University, New York University, among others. Ben Wang has lectured extensively on classical Chinese literature and theater at several prestigious universities in the U.S. and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Arts, New York's Lincoln Center, BBC Radio Station and the Smithsonian Institution, among others. As a translator, Mr. Wang received the National Prize in literature translation awarded by the National Literary Association of Taiwan in 1988. Since 1989, Mr. Wang has translated thirty-two classical Chinese Kunqu dramas into English. Besides teaching at the UN, Mr. Wang is also a senior lecturer at China Institute.


Ms. Vera Huang

Ms. Vera Huang has taught Chinese language and literature at the Chinese Language Institute for several years and has been a lecturer of Chinese at Pace University for four years.





Ms. Judy Deng

Judy Deng received her M.A. in Education and B.A. in English Language and Literature in China. She had been a language instructor at a university in China for 11 years before coming to the US in 1995. Since then, she has been teaching the Chinese language courses at New School University, China Institute and several other institutions.




Ms. Fan Guan

Fan Guan is a Beijing native. After receiving a BA from Beijing Normal University. she taught Chinese as a second language at Beijing Language and Culture University for six years. Subsequently, she earned an M.A. from Ohio University in International Affairs. She is currently a full-time teacher at Stuyvasant High School and a part-time teacher at China Institute.




Ms. Lixue Lin

Lixue Lin graduated from Beijing Foreign Languages Institute and has a master degree in education from City College, CUNY. Before joining the UN Chinese Language Programme, she was a Site Coordinator for SWAN Network, coordinating an After School program that focuses on the learning of Chinese language and culture. Currently she is also teaching Chinese  language at Adelphi University, Long Islands. She used to be a teacher and work in foreign service back in China.



Ms. Ping Wang

Ping Wang received her M.A. in Education from Long Island University and her B.A. in Western Language and Literature from Peking University. She taught Chinese as a second language for foreign students at Beijing Language University for nine years. After coming to America, she has taught Chinese at the United Nations and the City College of New York (CUNY). She is currently a Chinese language teacher at New York University, John Jay College (CUNY) and China Institute.
