This concludes the 2013 Competitive Examination for Accounting Assistants. Please kindly check your email (including spam/trash folders) before contacting us via ohrm-acct2013@un.org if you have any inquiries regarding your result.

The written and practical examinations results have been communicated to all candidates on 14 June 2013 via email. Only candidates who have successfully meet the threshold scores in the written and practical examinations are invited to the oral examination. We cannot provide feedback on individual scores. Please note that the disposition in Inspira will only be updated after the examination is concluded. Therefore, candidates who have not been invited to the oral examination will still see their disposition in Inspira as "Under Consideration".

All applicants have been informed of their eligibility to sit for the 2013 Competitive Examination for Accounting Assistants via email.
Please note that the disposition in Inspira will only be updated after the examination is concluded. Therefore, applicants who do not meet eligibility criteria will still see their disposition in Inspira as "Under Consideration", but would have received a letter stating that you are not invited to the exam. Only applicants who have received a convocation letter are eligible to sit for the exam.

The Job Opening has closed on 21 March 2013. The Examinations and Tests Section is currently screening all applications according to the eligibility criteria. We will inform applicants whether they are invited to the written examination and/or ASAT by first week of April. The ASAT session is planned for the week around 15 April 2013 and the written examination is planned for 29 April 2013, these dates may still change according to the total number of eligible candidates. We will post the dates as soon as they are finalised.

Preparatory Courses Not Endorsed

The Examinations and Tests Section (ETS), Office of Human Resources and Management does not run any training courses for the preparation of the 2013 Competitive Examination for Accounting Assistants. It had been brought to our attention that such courses are being provided. Please note that such courses are not organised nor endorsed by ETS.

2013 Competitive Examination for Accounting Assistants - Applications are Now Being Accepted

This competitive examination is open to applicants who meet the educational, work experience and language requirements as specified in the job opening now posted in Inspira.

The Accounting Assistants posts are located in the United Nations Office of Programme Planning, Budget and Accounts (OPPBA), other departments/offices throughout the Secretariat and United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund in New York. Accounting Assistants are responsible for recording, examining, reconciling accounting and financial transactions; processing staff members/retirees claims, entitlements and/or pensions; settling expenditures against budgetary allotments.

In order to qualify for the examination, applicants must have the following:
1. A high school diploma or equivalent;
2. At least five years of work experience in accounting, finance or other related areas;
3. Fluency in oral and written English;

Applicants will be required to pass the Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) as a prerequisite for consideration to undergo the Accounting Assistant Competitive Examination. The ASAT for qualified applicants will be held in April 2013.

The Accounting Assistant Competitive Examination consists of three parts:
(i) a written test covering accounting knowledge;
(ii) a practical test to assess candidates’ knowledge of Microsoft Excel; and,
(iii) for those examinees who have been successful in the first two parts, an oral interview.

All parts shall be given in English only.

The practical test and written examination will be held in New York in April 2013. The exact date and location will be determined according to the number of examinees invited, who will be advised directly at a later date.

Note the deadline for applications is Thursday, 21 March 2013.
