Due to technical issues, Inspira server was taken off-line for emergency maintenance during 11-12 September 2012 period. As a result, the system was not available to applicants. Therefore, all currently posted Job Openings, including those for 2012 Examinations for Editorial and Desktop Publishing Assistants in English, Spanish and Chinese will be extended by one week.
The new deadlines, 19 September 2012, are now reflected in Careers Portal and in Inspira.

Due to the number of applications, the Editorial and Desktop Publishing Assistants examination is re-scheduled to be held during the first two weeks of October 2012.
All applicants will be informed of their eligibility by 21 September 2012.

2012 Examinations for Editorial and Desktop Publishing Assistants in English, Spanish and Chinese - Applications are Now Being Accepted

These examinations are open to all interested applicants who meet the educational, work experience and language requirements as specified in the Job Openings in the United Nations Careers Portal (careers.un.org).

The Editorial and Desktop Publishing Assistants posts are located in the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York. Appointments against these posts will be on a local basis and appointees are not entitled to international benefits. These positions provide support in the production of major camera-ready documents and by formatting them in desktop publishing layouts. The accurate production of these documents is vital to the intergovernmental process among the Member States of the United Nations.

In order to qualify for each examination, applicants must have the following:

1. High school diploma or equivalent;
2. At least three years’ work experience in desktop publishing or a related field, including draft typing, copy editing, formatting, proof-reading and creating typographical layouts;
3. English, Spanish or Chinese as a main language; and,
4. Fluency in oral and written English.

Each examination consists of the following tests in the applicant’s main language:

(i) Typing test (54 words/minute);
(ii) Grammar and spelling test;
(iii) Direct dictation test (verbatim); and,
(iv) Text formatting test.

There will be a separate English language skill assessment.

The written examination will be held in New York in September 2012; the precise date and location will be determined according to the number of invited candidates, who will be advised directly at a later date.
