UNITED NATIONS OBSERVATION GROUP IN LEBANON


LOCATION: Lebanese-Syrian border areas and vicinity of zones held by opposing forces

HEADQUARTERS: Beirut, Lebanon

DURATION: June - December 1958

STRENGTH: 591 military observers, supported by international and locally recruited civilian staff

FATALITIES: None

EXPENDITURES: $3,697,742

FUNCTION: Established to ensure that there was no illegal infiltration of personnel or supply of arms or other matériel across the Lebanese borders. After the conflict had been settled, tensions eased and UNOGIL was withdrawn
