United Nations Multilingual Terminology Database
The UNTERM multilingual terminology database continues to grow, thanks to the work of the terminology team and the daily input of translators, editors, interpreters, verbatim reporters and other staff throughout the Department and the Organization. In 2005, it included almost 75,000 terms and titles in the six official languages. Additionally, the database provides background information, cross references and hotlinks to relevant web sites (such as texts of conventions and treaties).
Many UNTERM entries concern UN-related nomenclature, for example:
-
Names of conventions, treaties, conferences, working groups, organizations, divisions, functional titles, NGOs;
-
UN-related technical terminology (e.g., on demining, peacekeeping, women, the environment, the law of the sea and the IAEA);
-
Country names and currency units.
The UNTERM database is accessible via Lotus Notes, the Intranet and the Internet (at http://unterm.un.org).
