In 1946, the United Nations was mandated to disseminate information through the medium of radio. Since then the United Nations has continually produced radio programmes. Currently, 29 radio transcription programmes in 15 languages are sent to over 180 countries and territories.
These programmes vary in length and style and cover a wide range of issues; some are current affairs, while others are specialized such as the programmes devoted to women, yet others are documentary in style and cover in-depth specific global issues with which the organization and its specialized agencies are involved.
These radio programmes are available in cassette and are accompanied by a script or blurb to radio broadcasters only.
